You couldn't ask for a better day for racing. The sun was out and a slight breeze blowing throughout the day. With the first part of the racing season filled with rain, it was nice to have a clear day. It was good to see the normal Piedmont regulars out, but also a great surprise to see some people coming all the way from Virginia. We know some tracks are running a limited schedule, leaving racers with few places to race. All racers are welcome at Piedmont and we'll do anything we can to accommodate you.
Street ET has REALLY picked up. We doubled our entries from our last race. Street ET is a beginner class for street cars. This weekend we saw everything from a 7 second grand national to a work dakota truck with a ladder rack on top of it. The finals saw Colt Buckner running Debbie Whaley. We encourage as many people as possibleto come out and try their hand at bracket racing. Colt had this race in the bag from the start with a .13 advantage off the tree.
In Jr's Kellan Farmer and Grayson Lister met up again. Grayson had some mechanical issues first round with an alcohol leak. The Lister's were able to get that fixed and make it to the final round. Kellan had a .03 of an advantage from the starting line and held it throughout the run and took home the win.
In footbrake we had a first time Piedmont winner in Henry Martin. I spoke with Henry after the race. He is a super nice guy. He said he never planned on winning the race. He was very happy and we hope to see him back at Piedmont at the next points race. Henry ran Tim Cowick who went .002 red in the finals. The points race is slowly taking shape. We run 12 points races with 2 drops. So if you missed the first two races, don't worry, you can still get in!
Top Eliminator was fun to watch. For my brother and I, we just shook our heads. Wayne Chambers was piloting John Lassiter's old dragster. My brother and I had considered buying this dragster awhile back. It's a great car that has won a lot of races. Wayne was racing just his THIRD race and took it to the winners circle. In conversation he mentioned how he didn't have enough alcohol to run the race and had to borrow some from a fellow racer. He explained he never thought he'd go enough rounds to win the race! Imagine the feeling of going to the finals and taking home the trophy! He's hooked now. Wayne ran Dwayne Bowman in the finals. Dwayne is running his first year in Top. He had been racing FootBrake in his past. It looks like he's starting the year off on the right foot. Dwayne was showing everyone you can have a full bodied car and still go rounds.
We look forward at seeing you guys on May 4th for our next race. Here is a video from the finals this past weekend, hope you guys enjoy!
